Stroller Dilemma

I have a dilemma. While the girls are getting too old for a stroller, I am determined to get more exercise this spring and the only way I can fit it into my schedule is to walk the girls to school. This would give me a good hour long walk (total walk both ways) and for one of those ways, I would be pushing an extra 65 lbs.

The dilemma is that we have just about outgrown our Phil and Ted's double and so we need to purchase a side-by-side jogger to accommodate our growing children. The dilemma is that it is physically hurting me at the thought of spending upwards of $600 for a stroller. I have done some research and feel that the BOB Revolution is our best option. It is sturdy and has gotten rave reviews from the parents I have spoken to. It is, however, $659. This is not a purchase to be made lightly.

I was actually at the store this morning looking at it and the thought of actually spending this much money is tying my stomach into knots. I have been wracking my brain about how I can make our Phil and Ted's work (don't know how I can do this seeing as there is a weight limit and we are a few pounds shy of it). I have been trying to find other exercise options to no avail. I am now trying to convince myself that $659 is well worth having a healthier me.

I think I am going to have to sit with this idea of spending this much for a bit and see if gets any easier to swallow. I think I am partly torn as well because I would rather spend this money on a tablet.

I just wish stroller were less expensive. Oh, and I have been on Kijiji and Craig's List every day with no sign of a BOB for sale yet! I will continue to look but have a feeling that buying a new one is our only option.

  1. Phil and Ted's has a really high resale value, nearly that of the BOB. I do a little Kijiji research on the going rate and sell your Phil and Teds and that should really help offset the cost! :0) good luck!

  2. Canadian Tire has a double jogger for like $200.

  3. what about a bike trailer that can also have a handle attached to it for use as a stroller? not sure what the max weight is you'll be pushing but ours has a 100lb. weight limit and was under $100. Maybe some of the nicer ones in the $200 range have a greater weight limit? Not to mention they're enclosed and many have UPF fabric on them.

  4. The consignment shops near where I live have different versions of these kind of strollers from time to time for around $50.00. I would totally check a consignment shop near you before committing to such a high price!

  5. The reviews for the cheaper strollers have been horrible! There was one at Babies R US for $399 that looked promising but as I did more research it really scared me off. There were quite a few terrible reviews.

As for selling the Phil & Ted, we may have a third child in the next year so we can't do it yet.

I will checkout the Canadian Tire one Jen and see if I've checked out the reviews yet.

  7. You can buy the car seat attachment for the BOB though, so if you have a 3rd, you can totally use this stroller for YEARS! Break down the cost by how many years you will use it, and it might be easier to swallow. You are right about the reviews...you don't want a "cheap" jogger. Its not good for the kids in terms of the amount of shock being absorbed!

  8. Good point that I could use this as our stroller with a third. I just love the manueverability of the P&T as well as the ease of getting it in and out of the car. The BOB was definitely not easy to fold.
